The Xbox presser breakdown.

It was... meh.  It never really wowed me aside from the Tomb Raider footage.  But they've got Cuphead!

Let's break it down.

  • Halo 5 is coming November 10th.  Here's gameplay and here's the official multiplayer trailer
  • ReCore from Keiji Inafune is coming in 2016, and it got a prerendered trailer
  • Xbox One will get a backwards compatibility update Holiday 2015, which will allow you to play "over 100" Xbox 360 games on your One
A few things about this: they fired a dig at Sony over this, saying they "won't charge you for games you already own."  It doesn't sound like a real emulator in the system - it sounds like only certain games will be backwards compatible, though it may be as simple as the publisher giving permission.  On the cool side, if you bought one of the featured games digitally on Xbox 360, it will automatically appear in your Xbox One library if it's available.  Neat!

Here's an FAQ on that.
You'll get to demo the game with a free trial to decide if you want to jump in early or not (good call!).  Announced so far are The Long Dark, Sheltered, Elite Dangerous and DayZ - the last two will apparently be available tonight.
  • Ion, the next game from the DayZ dev, is coming to Xbox One
  • Tomb Raider got a nice meaty gameplay trailer
  • Rare Replay, a thirty-dollar bundle of thirty classic Rare games (Battletoads, Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, Perfect Dark) is coming August 4th
  • Rare, meanwhile is making a third-person shared-world adventure game called Sea of Thieves which actually looks super cool
  • Fable Legends got another trailer.  Myeh
  • Gears of War Ultimate Edition for Xbox One is indeed a real thing and is coming August 25th.  One week of public beta testing starts today!
  • Gears 4 got a nice slice of gameplay, and is coming holiday 2016.
And that's it!  Not great, not bad.  Cuphead and Tomb Raider look awesome and I'm super-jelly that I won't be playing them.
