NeoGAF is down and if you've sexually assaulted folks you really just need to own up to it.

I'm sad about NeoGAF.  It's down, if you haven't heard.

The short version is a(nother) accusation of sexual assault on the part of NeoGAF owner Tyler "Evilore" Malka popped up, and threads about it on the site were immediately shut down by mods and bans were handed out.  Not all the site moderators were happy with this suppression, and they began to quit the site en masse.  Now (I believe) only one mod remains - or did, when I crashed out last night - and the site is 503.  Try to load it - you can't.

Here's a short version of yesterday's events from Polygon, and here's a more detailed version from a journo who was actually involved in the most recent news about Evilore coming to light.  I'm not skeptical of the accusor(s), here - I'm definitely sad and distressed that the Internet Hangout where I actually spent most of my online socializing time has just gone "poof."

The forum's absence hurts me, personally, in a limited way - I'm going to miss the GAF Overwatch crew if I never hear from them again.  I fucking like NeoGAF and the Overwatch thread(s) and the constant community and wealth of perspectives and knowledge it provides.  I don't want it to go away, and I certainly don't want it to be because yet another dude would rather burn his house down than own up to the fact that he's had problems keeping his hands to himself.

I appreciate that whether there's one person paying attention or a thousand, stepping up to the mic and saying "I have done shitty, vile things, and even bragged about it, and I am so fucking sorry" is not an attractive proposition.  We're not all the President of the United States of America, and you can't anticipate a lot of support after admitting something like that - but that is the first and only step, dude.  Anything else permits your mistake, your abuses, your sins, to just hang there behind you like a shadow you're terrified someone might be able to see, and - if you're prepared to consider its implications beyond your own suffering - it fosters an environment where you're just going to hurt others again.  And that shadow will grow larger, and define you - if you don't feel it already does.

Dialogue is what's required, here.  Lucky for you, Evilore, you own and run one of the biggest - if not the biggest - gaming community and dialogue factories on the planet.  That seems like a good place to start.

So... y'know... start them servers up again!  Annny minute now!  Think about how this affects me you fucking asshole!
