Guardians of the Galaxy is the movie you want it to be.
Director James Gunn, who gave us the funny, human and way-above-par creature feature Slither, the pitch-black superhero-deconstruction comedy Super and one of the best scripts in all of videogamedom, does it again with Guardians of the Galaxy. Is it better than The Avengers? Yes.
It's got (near-constant) laughs, it's got spectacular special effects and art direction, it's got a plot that clips along beautifully and most importantly a ton of heart. It has a keen emotional intelligence - you will feel for Groot and Rocket, you will cheer for Star Lord, and you will want to see it again.
I sure do.
